The Vice President of Zimbabwe, Retired General Dr. Constantino Chiwenga, recently inspected various projects in preparation for the upcoming SADC summit in August.
Vice President Chiwenga toured the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport VVIP Pavilion, Rainbow Towers Hotel, the Museum of the Liberation Struggle, New Parliament, a tour of the Villas and the UZ Public Lecture Room.
“I was on an inspection to see various projects we are undertaking preparation of the SADC summit and we have started from the Airport and now we are finishing off at the University of Zimbabwe, and all areas that we have visited aimed at SADC Summit is becoming a success,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction at the ongoing projects and highlighted a greater improvement since he last visited, exceeding his expectations.
“What I have seen from my last visit, there has been great improvement and in some cases exceeding what i expected. There are 1 or 2 areas that we need to move with speed to make sure that everything is in order. We have been given a deadline where everything must be in place well before the industrialisation week begins,” he said.
He went on and praised an exceptional work that the local contractors are doing.
“The quality of work is quite perfect and extremely good and more importantly is that these are Zimbabwean companies who are doing all the work”, he said.
He also expressed concern on other projects which are a little behind which includes the Mt Hampden Villas.
“All the equipment for the villas has now arrived, and that is the area where we are requesting an extra hour to expedite everything and meet the deadline,” he said.
He was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Hon Barbara Rwodzi, the Minister of Information and Publicity and Broadcasting Hon Jenfan Muswere, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Honourable J K Sacco and other government officials.
