Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Hon Felix Tapiwa Mhona has announced that the government has started to rehabilitate Zimbabwe’s railway line that stretches up to 2700 km with plans to construct new lines also in place.
The Minister was speaking in Wazvaremhaka Chikomba East where he was celebrating Zanu Pf victory in the 2023 elections .
” We have started to rehabilitate our about 2700km railway line taking special interest in attending to bends and other areas of this key infrastructure so as to make it a morden railway line that carries us into the future .
” The idea is to also enable the full function of our railway system and therefore move most of our cargo from the road to rail and hence reduce both the wear of our road infrastructure as well as reduce accidents caused by high volumes of haulage trucks on our roads” he said .
Hon Mhona also announced that plans are at an advanced stage to construct a railway link between Manhize steel plant and the national rail system and then construct a Manhize to Nyazura railway line as well.
He hailed the second republic ably led by His Excellency Cde Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa for championing various Infrastructural development in the country.
” And when we say we have a listening President this is what we will be talking about ,now you can see everywhere there is massive Infrastructural development going on ,the airports are being upgraded, massive road rehabilitation is under way including the Harare Chirundu highway , the new Parliament access roads, the Mbudzi Interchange is on coarse for completion, our ports of entries are all going to be mordenised and this is all because of the thrust of the second Republic under the leadership of HE President Dr E D Mnangagwa as he leads us into vision 2030.
The celebrations in Chikomba were attended by Chiefs ,Musarurwa, Chivese, Mutekedza, Nyoka,Kareya and Chief Neshangwe and Zanu PF Central Committee member Cde Dorothy Chigweremba, several provincial members ,DCC Chikomba Chairman Cde Venorn Muringani and Chikomba RDC Chairman Cde Israel Dhikinya among many local leaders.
