VP Chiwenga urges road contractors to work 24 hrs to meet 30 June deadline, during his tour of Bindura, Old Mazowe, Lomagundi, and Boulevard roads yesterday.
Vice President Chiwenga has urged Fossil Contractors, Bitumen, and Exodus Contractors to speed up and complete the Access roads of Greater Harare by 30th of June.
“We are now saying you need to work 24/7 there is no weekend.
“There’s no night, you need to restructure yourself, I want everything to be done by June.
“You tell us your exact requirements, that way it will be a win win situation.
“You do your work and own our part we will do everything to make sure you meet your targets,” said Hon VP.
Furthermore, Dr Chiwenga commended the local contractors for an excellent job and expressed pride in supporting local companies.
“It is quite amazing and encouraging and this is what we want.
“We want to make our own people rich and give them contracts running with the mantra ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’.
“What is the purpose of having universities and high education, it is to make sure that we train our own people and build our own country, it is our responsibility,” he said.
He further stated that the Boulevard, Lomagundi, and Bindura roads have taken shape, emphasizing pride in our country.
“You have seen the Boulevard, Lomagundi and Bindura roads have taken shape and this is good.
“We also want to tell our people that it’s not the issue of talking too much and admiring other countries but you should admire your own country,” said VP Chiwenga.
Mr Exodus Makumbe of Exodus Contractors confirmed adherence to the Vice President’s instructions, ensuring work according to schedule and ethics.
He said, “We’ve received your instructions and we will ensure that we work according to the provided schedule, no matter the circumstances.”
At the same event, Honorable Felix Tapiwa Mhona, Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, also emphasized the Vice President’s point regarding the completion of construction by June.
“We, as a ministry, will execute the duties swiftly.
“I will meet with the contractors to ensure they align with the Vice President’s directives,” said Hon Mhona.
Honourable Mhona mentioned that the Vice President urges the contractors to work 24 hours to meet the 30 June deadline.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the tour showcases the work ethic of the 2nd Republic under President Dr. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa’s leadership, as VP Chiwenga urges road contractors to work 24 hours to meet the 30 June deadline.
