In a tragic accident, 62 people were injured when a bus veered off the road and overturned near the 119 km peg on the Mutare-Masvingo highway on April 1, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
“The ZRP confirms a road traffic accident in which 62 people were injured when a Passion Link Coaches bus with 72 passengers veered off the road to the left before overturning and landing on its roof at the 119 kilometre peg along Mutare –Masvingo Road on 01/04/24 early in the morning,” said the statement.
According to the statement, the injured victims were taken to Birchenough Bridge Hospital, where they were treated and later discharged.
“The injured victims were referred to Birchenough Bridge Hospital where they were treated and discharged,” said the Police.
The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe recently revealed that 95% of accidents are caused by human error.
“It is important to follow road rules and regulations, as statistics show that human error is responsible for 95% of road accidents in Zimbabwe,” said Mr Mahunda, TSCZ Operations Director.
In a related incident 14 people were injured when an Andile coaches bus overturned once at 302 km peg along Harare – Chirundu highway on 29 March 2024.
